Classical music is a term used to generalize about almost all orchestral music created between 460 and present. Classical music is actually the middle period of the 3 eras of the ‘common practice period’
The eras of classical music are:

  • Medieval (460-1400)
  • Renaissance (1400-1600)
  • Baroque (1600-1760) Purcell, Telemann
  • Classical (1730-1820) Pachelbel, Mozart
  • Romantic (1815- 1910) Shubert, Chopin, Beethoven
  • 20th Century (1900-2000)


There is some overlap with the eras as well as the composersThis type of music is not easy to play and yet its simpler forms are used very early on in music education. Anyone who has gone past the most basic of studies in piano, violin, flute, etc. has encountered some classical music.
Classical music studies has the benefit of both being the music out start out with and can continue with for your entire life.
