Everybody gets the blues! If you want to go on to playing rock or jazz music then the blues is a great place to begin.
The blues is the melding of a 6 note African scale and European harmonic theory. The scale was adapted to tempered tuning and we have the “Blues Scale”. Essentially a minor scale played against major chords.

To play the blues you need to know major minor and dominant 7 chords in all keys. Because the forms of the blues are very similar you need to know the 12 bar basic, 12 bar with the ‘quick’ IV and the jazz variations as well as minor blues, 16 bar versions and blues with a bridge.

Ypu need to know the blues scale in all keys and positions for your instrument.

Blues is a great ‘common ground’ for musicians and the back bone of any jam session
